What a wonderful week! Friday was so nice to see come-only if it would come a little early!
Our queen Ms. Mary graced us with her lovely smile yesterday and of course, I had goodies just for her! Some cupcakes and cookies and some peach tea! Ms. Mary is our celebrity and our love.
Flossy came in, got her massage that Katie Bug and Austin gave her for Mother's Day and then on to cover her blonde's!! Just remembering the times Randall would break dance and do the worm, and we laughed a little too loud! Flossy is the kind of client that loves to shampoo your hair for you while her hair processes. Of course, being that no one will blow dry my hair, she jumps in. She giggles and smiles and says, "I bet Gilda wouldn't let me do this to her!!" Everyone looses it then! Love my Flossy!
In from the south end of town, comes my Melina. She just knows how to brighten up my day. Her personality is intoxicating. We talk about raising girls and share our stories of the hormone moments. Oh, bless you Melina!
Horhay, aka, Hosea when mopping, aka, Jimmy at home, stops in to do his normal door greeting and customer service. Ask Valerie if she has anything she has torn up so he can fix it, of course Val is arm deep in clients, she says not this week! HA!
Rachel is working on Granny. Granny is our other weekly diva. Her and Ms Mary rule the roost there. Granny has the best hair in town. She loves those grand baby boys too!! Rachel smiles, carries on the day with her wonderful personality, never gets rattled.
Kristen, loving her new look, works frivolously and rattles ninety miles an hour. I wish I had her energy. Oh, to be 20 again. Working for the weekend, she fluffs her hair, asks Horhay if it is supposed to rain tonight, because if so she doesn't want to wear a long dress and get it wet. HA! I wish that was what I worried about on Friday at 5:30 pm. I'm so jealous!
Brandi is in her new area, blasting about nails and booking pedis for Saturday. Worn out from a busy week, she smiles and says I'm headed HOME!! Love my Red!
Janae, aka, Naenae, is stirring up conversation with everyone, when she gets a free moment. Her new massage room is her sanctuary. She has some magic hands, ask me, Rachel, Valerie, Brandi, Kristen, Jimmy, and the list goes on and on. Hey, she's a busy little bee!!!
The Friday life at DV8, with blessings from above, enables us to share our laughs, our tears and our fears with each other, as well as our clients. Our day, being long or short, there is always someone who we see come in looking down and out - but leaving with smiles and feeling great about them self. Stop in any Friday to participate in our antics. You'll too get addicted and want to schedule every Friday like our clients do now. It sure helps for a perfect ending to hard week!!

Tell your professional - YOU CARE!!
Thank goodness Wednesday was invented! Today has been a long, grueling day standing behind a blow dryer and pair of shears, not to mention the foil!! But, you know, God always sends a blessing when we least expect it. Is that why it is called a Blessing?
I have been contacted by an old dear friend who went to Shelton with me. I had been thinking about her lately and just wondered how she was. Well low and behold, she called me out of the blue yesterday and dropped in to see me. Seems that God directed her to me or my prayers for some sunshine in my DV8 life would appear? Both!! Just a little smile from above on our Wednesday. Thanks Shell!!!
Nothing in this life is Luck, just happens or fate. I believe God's hands are in it all time. I guess lately you get in a "rut" and yes we all do and we have to be reminded that others have hard times too. God sent me a rainbow after my shower.
You know we look around and see how bad the economy is and how it has effected all businesses from the big guy to us little folks. But, we tromp on!! I see all of our hard workers at DV8 and Jimmy and I are very thankful for the Godly women that work for us. I know I don't always say it but I AM TRULY BLESSED! So, next time you sit in your stylist chair, nail techs chair or your on a massage table, just remember how hard these ladies work and tell them you care. Just because you pay for a service, you are probably getting more than your moneys worth. They are giving up time from family, new babies and time at home to make you feel good and look your best.
Loves to all and I hope God blesses you as HE did me today!! (and everyday!)

"Ruby" my favorite color!!
Saturday morning starts out with Jimmy & I headed toward DV8. With my driver in tow, we arrive, begin our 8:30 for her eyebrow wax and just a little bit of catching up we could do. The next appointment is my favorite, Mrs. Brenda. This lady is one after my own heart. She is loyal, dedicated and one client that I would honestly come in at 4 am and get her fixed. She always arrives with her phone, purse and possibly a drink in hand. We discuss her gran baby's and her recent trip to see Tristan and Simon, and her and Jimmy proceed in their normal conversation.
As we chat, we laugh, and Kristen arrives, sleepy eyed, Amber sets her site on Kristen's chair for her "day"! Amber, not quite awake yet, her and Kristen start their adventure.
Then, after a color, highlights, haircut, the phone rings. Kristen hands me the phone, "Help this girl", so I kinda look at her like she knows who it is. The other end of the line, a sweet voice says, "Can anyone, anyone please, fix my hair?" I replied, "What's wrong?" She replies, "My hair is glowing red" Well at that moment, I couldn't tell her no, not even if I had to leave, I was tired or half dead. I immediately told her to be on her way now.
So, in about 5 minutes, a tall, slender college girl enters DV8 with hair in a pony tail. Of course, I put my tools down, walk over to her and took her hair down. Yes, HOT ROOTS!! Her reply was "ruby" hair. She was so precious, I felt like her mom. I gave her a smock, sat her down and I told her I would be with her in just a moment.
Finished with Mrs. Brenda, set her next appointment, and on to "Ruby" I go. OK, we discussed where she went on Friday, the color she asked for and decided on our next step. Jimmy got her a diet Dew and we were CRAZY FOR COLOR!!!
"Ruby" aka, Tia, left DV8 with a smile, my cell number and a pre -booked appointment. She said she hadn't told her mom about the incident. I hope she talks to mom, explains the situation and mom in turn stops by when she's in Tuscaloosa to meet me.
OK, "Ruby" , make sure you make it to class Monday morning, because your hair is HOT now!!! Sometimes even the most dramatic situations, whether it be scary or unsure, I can say I have the most rewarding career ever.
"Ruby came in with a pony tail and left with a smile!"

Oh the joys of Friday! Oh no, it is not my Friday - I still have one more day!!
Today started out as usual - off to my second home! The home away from home. Check the bathrooms and make sure they are cleaned, stocked with toilet paper, mirrors cleaned, no hand prints on the front door and do laundry. This is all before 8 am. Oh, I left out the most important step - COFFEE! Start the coffee!
Ok, one cup down and as the front door opens for business - my first smile rolls in. Matilda - my beautiful lady from Hub- coming to enjoy her Spa day. Ok first a cut, then on to the pedi chair and then off to the serene and quietness of her massage. Then back to my chair for a "fluff and spray" and she is off for a great day of shopping!! Looking good Tilda!!
Then as lunch time rolls around, my Horhay (aka Jimmy) stops in for his appointment. Well, I really think he just likes to be there cause he loves Ms Mary on Friday. She shows up for Val about 35-45 minutes early for her appointment - every Friday!! Ha! She'll never be late!!
But, hey, she's queen on Fridays!
The clock is ticking, the blow dryers are going full blast, the phone is ringing, and the dreaded words from the other side - "uh, could I get a cut today?" "uh, can I get a fill in- today?" "can I get a massage - today?" Ok, sometimes, I know, you just wake up and look in the mirror, and dang if the fertilizer didn't kick in on those roots!! Your back just started hurting and your nails grew out 3 inches!! Yea, I know- it happens. So, if we can, we will!!!
Laundry done, floor clean, lights off and now I headed home!! Yea for ME, only to return in the early SATURDAY am to repeat another Crazy for Color day on 15th Street!
